Family Book Club -Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs

I copied another family book club from momfessionals.com.  I wish I was this creative, but I am not, so I can't take any credit for it and just copy what Andrea at momfessionals.com has done.  This time around we had an entire day dedicated to the book "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs".  To say the kids had fun is an understatement.  They loved it.
Scott had surgery on Friday, so I knew we would be homebound this weekend and I needed to keep the kids entertained.
We started our morning with pancakes and orange juice and pancakes landing on their head just like in the book.  They thought it was pretty funny that I tried to flip a pancake onto their head.

Getting ready to start some fun activities.  Oh and I don't even notice it anymore that Evan never wears pants (until I look at the pictures).
We read the book the night before to get into the spirit.  Then we read parts of it all day again.
First activity was to create a poster with food falling down from the skies.  I took a picture of each kid looking up into the sky pretending like something was falling down on them a few days earlier (at this point they had no idea what I was planning, so they thought it was funny).  I printed the pictures and had the kids cut it out and glue it on the poster board.  Then we glued cotton balls for clouds and they had to cut out their favorite foods from ads I had been saving.
The finished product.  This activity kept them busy for a while and all three enjoy scissors and glue!
Then we moved on to some watercoloring.  I drew some pictures of the town chewandswallow in crayon (which really helped to keep the watercolors in the lines).
After the watercolor dried we glued on some food out of the pantry like it was falling from the sky.  They may have snacked a little on the food as well.
Nora's picture did not have much food glued on, she ate most of it.

Next we worked on some weather worksheets.

This is how Evan felt about the word search
Hannah enjoyed these
The next activity was their favorite.  I pulled out all of the Duplo Lego's and told them to build the town of chewandswallow.  They had fun building the town and played the entire time.  They built a hospital, a restaurant and a fire station.
While they were building the town I cooked 2 lbs of spaghetti and then put them in front of them.  I told them to dump spaghetti on their town like it is coming from the sky like in the book.  Their eyes got really big and they loved it.
After cleanup we did one more activity and it was a little experiment with clouds (shaving cream) and colored water.  We wanted to see what happens to the water going through the clouds…..it really just turned into a fun mess.  We used syringes to get the water through the clouds.

And then I am sure you can guess what we had for dinner. Spaghetti and meatballs.  We made yellow jello just like in the book ,but we all forgot about it and it is still sitting in the fridge.
It was a fun day that kept the kids entertained while Scott was resting.

More Fall Fun

We have been having some more Fall Fun.  I took the kids to the Pumpkin Patch last weekend and it was over 80 degrees out.  It did not feel like Fall.  The kids had fun climbing hay bales, riding the Mule train and playing on the playground.

This is as good as it gets with three

The corn pit was a favorite too
The sun was a little bright
My little piggies…..how fitting
Hannah has been coming to this pumpkin patch since she was a baby.  I like seeing these pictures every year.

Every morning I ask the kids what they would like for breakfast (they know their choices) and a lot of times the will say ice cream or candy.  Well, on Saturday morning when they said ice cream I told them sure they can have it.  You should have seen their faces.  I pulled out a tub of ice cream with three spoons and let them have ice cream for breakfast.  It was the highlight of their day and Hannah told everybody about it.

While Nora naps I usually try to play something fun with Evan.  I asked him last week what he wants to play (he usually wants to play firefighter or build a fort) and he said he wanted to play salon.  It is one of Hannah's favorite games.  So, we played salon and took some selfies.
Evan did my make up and hair
Then it was my turn to do his hair
The things we do for our kids and the things a little boy with a big sister wants to play…….

We planted a bunch of tulips this weekend.  Evan asked if he could help with the seeds.  I told him that we are actually going to plant bulbs.  While we were planting he kept asking me if I need another light bulb:)

We went to our annual pumpkin decoration get together at the McElroy's last weekend.  It is always so much fun.
Dan was nice enough to help some of the kids carve a pumpkin.
When it was Evan's turn he asked what Evan wanted carved and he said "a ghost chasing a little boy".
Well, Dan delivered.  I was quite impressed.
Here you have a carved pumpkin with a ghost chasing a little boy
