Back To Reality

How is Summer break already over?  It went by so fast.  Every year I am a little nervous about having all three kids home for 11 weeks and every year I am surprised by how fast it goes by.  Don't get me wrong there are loooong days during the summer where the fighting and whining never ends, but overall it is such a sweet time to have the kids home with no schedules.
Are we ready to get back into a routine?  It depends on who you ask :)

I have so much to catch up on and the pictures are endless, so I am going to start with a little bit of our Italy trip today.  We went to Europe for a month and had a wonderful time.  We flew into Venice and spent a couple of days there and then on to Lake Garda for a few days before heading to Germany.

Just like every time I am a little nervous before the long trip to Europe and wondering how the kids will do on the plane.  They did fantastic again and slept for a good portion of the overnight flight.  We landed in Venice around 11am the next morning and made our way to our hotel.  We had hotel transfer arranged, so that we don't have to worry about that after our long trip.
I love Italy and it had been a long time for me since visiting, so it felt wonderful to be back.

This was our first picture in Italy
On the water taxi to the JW Marriott
The JW Marriott is on its own private island, which was about a 20min boat ride from Venice.  It was perfect to be able to escape the summer crowds of Venice.  Plus we had a beautiful view of Venice from the hotel.  The hotel property was amazing.

This is the entrance to the hotel.  The kids thought it was so cool to just pull up into the hotel on a water taxi.
The view from the rooftop pool.
We had a quick lunch and then made everybody nap for 1 1/2 hours before taking the shuttle boat into Venice.
Here we are waiting on the shuttle boat. We are all so happy to be here.
My mom flew in the same day and met us at the boat dock in Venice.  We were all so happy to see her (but didn't get any pictures that evening).
We walked around Venice with no agenda to explore a little.  Venice gets very crowded in the summer, but if you go a little bit of the beaten path it's really not that bad.
Evan decided (unwillingly) to join the family picture
This girl is always ready for a picture
We had dinner and then headed back to the hotel to get a good nights sleep.
Evan made it his goal to eat pizza for every meal while in Italy and I am pretty sure he succeeded.  It is his kind of country......pizza and gelato.

Lots more picture to come next time.
