Croatia

We spent the first few days of our week in Croatia in Split and then moved on to the island of Hvar.

We had a great airbnb within a few minutes walking distance of the Promenade.

We kept our first day in Split open to explore.  Wandering around a new city is the best way to see it!

It was already pretty hot in the morning.

Ice cream in the morning is always a great idea

Nothing but blue sky!

We found this vestibule at the Diocletian Palace and right next to it was a small entrance with stairs up to the top...it was a very hidden entrance and it was only 1 Euro per person to go up, so we went for it.  We felt like we hit the Jackpot and the deal of the century :). Great views, no crowds and only 5 Euros for all of us :)
The Bell tower of the cathedral is recommended to climb up, but the line was really long and 10 Euros per person, so we felt great about our discovery.

We could see the bell tower, but were still happy with our discovery

You know there will be some leg hold pictures.....Hannah does this everywhere we travel to!  One day I should put a collage together.

And then there is Scott's leg hold....

And Evan's leg hold :)

Nora started to strike some dance poses as well

We ended up spending quite a bit of time up there enjoying the views.

We also spent a lot of time researching this US Aircraft carrier that was anchored in the bay of Split.  We were all quite fascinated with it.
Why is anchored there?
How much do they cost to build?
How big are they?
How many exist in the world?
What country has the most?

These were some of the questions we had.  We zoomed in enough to where we could see it was the US Gerald Ford carrier.....there are only 24 in the entire world and the US has 11, almost as many as all other countries combined (now don't go fact checking :), this is just a google search we did)

This is exactly how my family feels about me.....haha
After lunch we decided to walk to a beach and I said "it's not that far".
It was pretty hot out, but we did enjoy the walk and the views.

The water was incredible

The next day we had a tour set up to visit the Krka waterfalls along with a few towns on the way there....
Our first stop was the town of Sibenik, where we had some time to explore

It was such a cute town

Then we found ourselves climbing the road/stairs to St Michael's fortress.....with more fantastic views

There is an open air summer stage at the top of the fortress.....

We kind of lost Evan and didn't know where he went and then we finally spotted him......

Time for a little refreshment before continuing our journey to the waterfalls

We arrived at the Krka waterfalls right around lunch time

The hike through the national park was beautiful
At this point it was really hot and both Scott and Evan lost their shirt :)
Hannah didn't want to be seen anywhere near them......FYI, they were not the only guys that lost their shirt.

The hike took us to the Skradinski Buk waterfall....

We had some lunch at this location and then took a boat ride to the town of Skradin where our driver met us again.

We got off the boat and Evan saw a boy playing basketball and made his way on to the court and they played together......it was the highlight of Evan's trip.  Every time we asked his favorite part about Croatia he would say playing basketball.  Ha

Then it was time for ice cream......Nora still insists that this was the best ice cream she has ever had......maybe because the scoops were ginormous :)

We spent a little bit more time at the beach in Skradin before making our way back to Split.  It was a full day, but very worth it.
We arrived back in Split, cleaned up a little and enjoyed a drink on the promenade before dinner
