Colorado Adventure Part 1

We had several vacations cancelled due to the pandemic, so at the end of July we started thinking about a road trip to Colorado.  I was a little nervous about traveling during a pandemic, but with a little extra preparation we made it happen and had the best trip.  We researched a lot of different areas in Colorado and decided on Beaver Creek.

I was also a little nervous about the altitude since our kids had never been above 8,000 ft before and the last time I went skiing in Breckenridge I wasn't feeling the greatest the entire time we were there.

So, we decided to drive all the way through to Boulder and spent a couple of days there to get acclimated to the altitude before driving on to Beaver Creek.  We are not necessarily a road trip kind of family, so the 11 hour drive to Boulder was long.  We timed it, so that the kids would at least sleep 2-3 hours of the trip.  We stopped at a park to eat pizza for dinner in the middle of nowhere Kansas and then the kids fell asleep for the last part of the trip to Boulder.

We woke up the next morning ready to explore some trails in Boulder.  It happened to be one of the hottest days of the year.

Hiking in the Flatirons

We all gave it a try to run up this giant rock

We walked along Boulder creek for a little bit in the afternoon, but it was really busy and hot, so we didn't make it very far.

We ventured out again in the evening and ordered take out and sat on the University of Colorado campus to eat it.  We all really enjoyed this.

Then we walked around campus for a while to explore.   It is a really pretty campus and we started telling Hannah that she needs to think about going there for college (her dad has her brainwashed a little already and she really wants to go to KU).  We all really enjoyed seeing campus.
We made it over to the football stadium and saw this little guy roaming around.
We made it our mission to find as many animals as possible on this trip.
While walking back to our car it was getting really dark and we saw another raccoon going through a trash can and he scared us.  We all started running.

The next morning we went to El Dorado State Canyon park before heading to Beaver Creek.
First thing we came across was this rattle snake.  We had to go around it, because it was in the middle of the hiking trail.

El Dorado State Canyon was gorgeous.  It was a beautiful morning out and the kids didn't even mind the hiking, because there was so much to see (and keep our eyes out for more snakes).

It was the most perfect morning out.

Masks were required everywhere.  We took them off when nobody was around us (this trip was a great way for our kids to practice wearing masks for extended periods of time since they are required to wear them at school).

Hannah has been working really hard on her flexibility and she started doing the splits everywhere......

Pictures just don't do it justice.  It was so pretty out there.

One of the really fun things was that you can see a bunch of rock climbers along the path.  Can you spot them in this picture?

It inspired the kids to do some rock climbing of their own
More splits from Hannah

I got a little bit off the path here......we couldn't find the trail

This picture cracks me up

You can spot some more rock climbers in these pictures

You can see the heads of our little rock climbers here.....

After our El Dorado State Canyon adventure we drove the last few hours over to Beaver Creek.  We checked into our condo for the week.......this was our view.

I had placed a Walmart grocery pick up order before we left.  I meal planned for the entire week and it was perfect. The order was ready when we got to Beaver Creek and we had everything we needed for the week.
