Happy Birthday Big Boy......Evan is 8

We celebrated Evan's 8th birthday last week.  He will be off to College before we know it....

I think Nora was even more excited about his birthday than he was.  She could hardly wait to set up his birthday table.

The birthday table is one of my favorite traditions....

Everybody was up bright and early and we came down for breakfast and opened up a couple of presents......then he opened the rest after school.

This is what you get when you ask an 8 year old boy to pose for a picture.

Scott taught the kids how to play Poker a few weeks ago and Evan loves it, so the girls got him Poker chips for his birthday.
Evan is all in on everything he does in life.......so Poker might not be the best "hobby" for him :).  He is trying to bluff all of the time and puts everything in.

He also got a few NFL Jersey's for his birthday and wore one to school.

I surprised Evan and checked him out of school for lunch.  I had packed him a fake lunch in his lunch box, so he had no idea.  It was a really fun surprise.  I had picked up a pizza and we went home to eat it.  He changed into the other jersey for the second part of his school day.
We had to make sure he was back for recess right after lunch.....he didn't want to miss that.

As part of our PTO membership we got a Birthday visit from Boomer the mascot who delivered a Crumbl cookie.....

Evan thought it was pretty funny.

Boomer missed Nora's birthday, but he brought her a cookie this time.
These cookies are the size of Texas and we are still eating them (I froze them and everybody can have a bite every day for the next few weeks. ha)
Evan had requested an ice cream cake......

Blowing out all candles all at once gets harder the older you get.....

And he got another Jersey, so he is in his 3rd outfit of the day.
Evan loves football.  He can talk football with Scott all day long.  It works out good, because Scott also loves to talk football all day long.
We have come full circle now and the entire family has had a COVID birthday.  Since there was no party with friends Hannah planned a family party for the weekend.  She set up drinks, games, face masks and a dessert station in the theater.  She made invitations, a check in desk, signs, a birthday crown and an agenda.

Nora is checking in for the party.

It was Evan's choice to pick a movie, but he wanted to watch football instead.  So, we had pizza in the theater, watched football, played some games and then had more ice cream cake for dessert.  The kids (the two younger ones) then built a pallet on the floor in our bedroom and we had a slumber party.

I know I say this every year, but I truly believe that Evan's fighting spirit shows in his personality today and that is the reason he survived......we are very lucky to have him.  He is all in on everything and never gives up. He is very smart and thinks very logically and strategically.  He is always thinking ahead and is always playing for creating a game.  He never stops and can be very exhausting.  But we wouldn't want it any other way.  He is our "buddy" and we love him to the moon and back.

I had this picture pop up on my time hop last week.....those chubby cheeks!
And then my brother sent me these pictures that he came across on his phone.  I really wish my dad could see the kids today. He would be so proud of them.  He would tell Evan stories at the pub around the corner every day and the stories would get embellished a little more every time he told them:)
I miss him dearly.
