No visit to Germany is complete without a trip to the Haribo factory outlet store. It is a highlight for the kids every time. Haribo was founded in Bonn, which is only about 30min drive from my moms house.
Fun fact: Haribo is an acronym of the founders name (Hans Riegel) and the city in which the company was born Bonn. They are the inventors of gummy bears.
Everybody got to make their own mix from the bulk section and then we also ended up with way too many bags of gummy bears. It is just so much fun to see the huge selection.
You just can't beat the original gummy bears. We all really like the gummy frogs.
The next day we did our traditional hike up the Dom cathedral. We have done this every visit now for quite some years. If you ask anybody that lives in Cologne they will tell you that they haven't been up the cathedral since they were kids:)
There are 533 steps to get up to the top and no there is no elevator!
The kids did amazing and we were to the top in no time with a really quick stop at the bells, which are about half way up.
We did go into the cathedral as well. It is so beautiful.
That night we split up and I stayed at my moms house with the girls for a girls night and Evan and Scott went to the city apartment. They went out to eat at Oma Kleinman's, which is known for Schnitzel's the size of your head.
Scott sent me this picture of Evan with the salad they served him......we both had to laugh. That boy has never touched a salad.
I will wrap up our Germany trip next time.
